Liteyny Prospect is one of the main arterial roads in the center of St. Petersburg. It extends from Liteyny Bridge to Nevsky Prospect.
The street’s name “Liteyny Prospect” is one of the oldest in the city. It was formally established in 1738, associated with the construction (since 1711) of the cannon yard on the Neva’s left bank. Next to the cannon yard located Liteyny and Cannon districts. To make communication with the southern part of the city was cut a wide corridor to the Big Prospect (Nevsky Prospect). Later, on the place of that glace was grounded Liteyny Street, getting its name after Liteyny district.
After the October Revolution Liteyny Prospect was renamed to Volodarsky Prospect. Historical name was restored in January 13, 1944 two weeks before the blockade of the city raised.
